ALBUM REVIEW - Demon Hunter - Storm The Gates Of Hell

When I first put this new album in to listen to it, I was kind of skeptical on how good it would be. To be honest, I didn’t much like their last CD, The Triptych. It was still good but just didn’t sound all that complicated because they went a little old school with it. But after the first song played, I felt like burning down a small village… well, not really but you get what I mean. I was kind of taken back because of the hardness and brutality of the lyrics combined with the music, I was definitely hooked.

Storm the Gates of Hell was released on November 6, 2007 with three versions; the regular edition, special edition, and limited deluxe edition. As you go up the line, each version has different extras (except the regular) like a DVD, extra songs, stickers, etc. The main theme as you can probably tell is spiritual warfare. In their first song (same name as the album) it’s the most intense musically and lyrically. The lyrics focus on fighting the darkness (Satan) with the power of God, “Hell hath no fury at all”. Once that song ends, they keep the ball rolling right into the second song making you extremely energized and feeling like you could take on the whole army of Hell. (By the way, don’t try that)

I love the lyrics to, I Am You, because they talk about being a new creation in Christ. Cutting off/burning the old and having God come in and heal you. They match up perfectly with the metaly goodness of the music. One thing I have noticed form this new album is that the vocals are a wider range of pitch. I’m hearing more higher screams mixed in as well as the usual deep growl and heart-felt singing. I could talk about this album all day and there are many more things about it. I suggest you sample their songs and pick it up right away. Also check out there video on their myspace for Fading Away, http://www.myspace.com/demonhunter. A+ all the way.
